Duke of Edinburgh
CVB has been delivering the DofE project ‘Going for Gold’ since 2014 .
CVB has helped to deliver the DofE project for Crickhowell High School and Dyfed Powys Police since 2018.
Prior to COVID we organised an ‘Adult Expedition’ to raise funds for the scheme, this was a great success, we are looking to replicate this in September 2023.
At the beginning of 2023 CVB were asked to take the whole scheme over this year we have had 150 young people sign up for Duke of Edinburgh with the young children Canoeing and Walking.
Staff and a strong team of skilled volunteers work with the young people on the lead up to their expeditions and give up weekends to supervise practice and final walking/canoeing trips.

DEFIB Project
Defibrillator Project was started by two of our young youth led volunteers.
What started as a small project (to have a piece of life saving equipment on hand) has grown in size and we now have 11 De-Fibs which Crickhowell Volunteer Bureau manage.
These are located in Crickhowell (4) , Llangenny, Llanbedr, Glangrwyney, Llangattock, Llangynidr, Bwlch and Cwmdu.
The current prices are:
£1200 – Defib machine
£600 - Storage Cabinet
£200 - Replacement Battery
£50 - Each replacement pad
Time and money are also spent training groups to feel more confident with using the machines should the need arise.

Community Car Scheme
The Community Car Scheme is a service that CVB provides for those who do not have access to transport for their essential appointments (medical appointments, hospital visits, etc)
We have over 25 volunteer drivers who give up their time in order to drive our clients.
The trips vary in distance, from the local Health Centre to Hospitals in Cardiff, Birmingham, and Bristol.
The clients pay £10 per year administration/Joining Fee.
The Welsh Ambulance Service use our car scheme as an overflow for their bookings. The Health Board used our service during the Covid pandemic to transport the elderly for Covid vaccinations.
The service is essential for the elderly, vulnerable and for those with disabilities that are unable to access other forms of transport.

Befriending and activities
We have a team of volunteers who have been matched to clients and offer 1:1 support by way of home visits or telephone contact. This service is ideal for people who are housebound and suffering loneliness.
The clients are referred via PAVO, their GP, Social Services or family members.
CVB run a number of groups with the aid of volunteers ranging from knitting, coffee & cake, board games through to massage, watercolour for beginners and singing.
The groups are held at Maes y Ffynnon or CRiC.

Prescription Collection
When Covid struck, CVB went into overdrive. To ease the load from the NHS and Health Care system we offered to collect and distribute medical prescriptions to those in Crickhowell and surrounding areas with the help of our dedicated volunteers.
This was a lifeline to so many.
We still collect medication from Boots and the Surgery delivering to those who are housebound and have no family or too poorly to collect themselves.
For those who are housebound, we also collect and deliver library books.
